The Cross Stitch Cottage was started by Maura 13 years ago as a specialist cross stitch and embroidery “haven” for all who loved the art of fine needlework. In June 2000, when Maura emigrated to the USA, Manuela bought “The Cottage” and moved it to Bergvliet, keeping Sheelah as her right-hand, with her deep passion for embroidery and her wealth of knowledge.

In November 2004, we were forced by the economic situation after 9/11 to make a huge change and take over Harriet Habbs. In so doing we moved to the Park ‘n Shop in Meadowridge and also had to take on extra staff. Sadly we also lost the wonderful “cottagey” atmosphere. We did however have the advantage of combining all the needlecraft interests into one, making The Cross Stitch Cottage a true one-stop shop for all your needlecraft requirements from sewing, fine embroidery, cross stitch and smocking to knitting and crochet.

Now, our lease has come to an end and with the ever escalating and exorbitant rental charged, we have decided to go back home as from the 10th MARCH 2008.

For those of you that knew the “old” Cottage, I know you are in for a wonderful surprise!!! There is now a direct access to the stoep where you can sit and relax with your needlecraft while enjoying a peaceful cup of tea/coffee, and we are taking the wool and habby with as well. Please don’t ask me where we are going to put it all!!

My motto is: If you are happy, tell the world; if not, drop me a note!! as I aim to make this the friendliest, most helpful shop of it’s kind in town.

Please come and pay us a visit in our new “home” where Sheelah and I would love to welcome you with a cuppa, but PLEASE be considerate of the neighbours when parking ie. NOT right next to or directly opposite their driveways.
