Summer 2008

Dearest Friends (old and new), Fellow Stitchers and Knitters,

Yes, it is a miracle!!! I have at last managed to sit down and write your long-awaited newsletter after a very hectic and stressful TWO years. I cannot believe how the time has flown, to the extent that our lease at Park ‘n Shop has also come to an end. As the rent is once again going up exorbitantly, it has left me with one of three options: a) double the prices to try and pay the rent, b) close down or c) move back home. As I know neither of the first two options would be very popular with you, I have opted for the third so

For those of you that knew the “old Cottage” there is (I hope) a very pleasant surprise with some really super changes, such as direct access onto the stoep from the shop where you can sit and relax with your craft while having a cuppa. For those of you that have never been to the “home cottage” I hope you will love it as much as the “oldies” did. I have had such an incredibly positive response from those “oldies” that I feel inspired and positive about this very major decision for all of us. Thank you so much for all your support and enthusiasm. You have no idea how much it means to me.

With more added every day!!

Regarding the move, we have had a lot of enquiries as to whether we will be taking the wool and habby with: YES! YES! YES!, but don’t ask me where we are going to put it all! I trust we will somehow make a plan! We will also still be stocking all the lovely readymade gifts that we presently sell on consignment as well as the tapestry canvasses, tapestry wool and soft cotton.

For the knitters, the great news is that we have more of the new “magic” sock wool in and are also expecting some more new colours. Remember that with every ball of the Opal sockwool you purchase, you also get a free pattern. I am also very excited about the new Double Knitting yarn which Elle has launched and which has the same “fairisle effect” computer dyed into it with some really lovely patterns. These will all be available at the new shop.

We have also not forgotten our cross stitchers and are offering a 15% discount on all cross stitch fabrics. Pre-packs have been marked down up to 40% as well, so don’t hesitate to come and give us a visit.

PLEASE NOTE!

As from 4 March the old fax no. will no longer apply.
The fax and tel. no. will be the same:- 021 713-1709

On the staff side, Jennifer left us to “retire” in November last year and is now working harder than ever – for hubby. Kay will also be “retiring” at the end of March, but has kindly agreed to help us with the move before she takes outstanding leave, so it will all rest on my and Sheelah’s shoulders. At least you will be able to relax on the stoep and have a cup of coffee or tea if the queue at the till gets too long. Many, many special thanks to both Jen and Kay for all the years of dedicated and loyal service. An extra BIG thank you to Kay for teaching us embroiderers so much about the wool and knitting side of the business. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. A special thank you also to Cheryl who is such a willing and able casual, especially for all the times that you have been there for me at such short notice. It really means a lot to me.

Keep stitching and knitting. After all, it still is the best therapy under the sun.
